One thing that bothers me is that - these hackers spend such huge amounts of time writing software to do this damage to total strangers.  It's kind of like on-line vandalism.

Since it usually is running  much slower than it used to, they may not even remember how fast it was.

They may not know that an anti-virus program only fixes some of the problems - and that's if it's kept up to date.   Many people do not bother renewing their subscriptions, which makes their software useless.

Spyware is another issue: some of it contains certain kinds of viruses that anti-virus programs generally do not detect.

There are three free software packages
I have been using to cure this problem for quite a while.  I like using them, in particular, (especially the free spyware remover), because there are some things you can do in addition to just running the programs and letting them search for problems.

This allows me to make sure that every trace of this scumware is removed. A note: Two of them charge a small fee for business computers, but they are still a better deal than anything else around.  The free Anti-virus I use offers a  free update service. 

So does the free Spyware remover and the free Firewall.  

Anti-virus software is TOTALLY USELESS unless it is updated frequently.  Most viruses you pick up are new.

One thing I do, is use some windows utilities as a tool to shut down most viruses and spyware before installing the software.

Some people throw out computers because they are running so slow.  In a few weeks or months, their new computers are running just as slow.  

These problems have to be dealt with right now.  Before the computer completely crashes and everything is lost.

Viruses are capable of pretty much anything their twisted authors can conceive.  Many times they corrupt the hard drive to the point that the system will not boot at all.

When you get to that point, you may have to re-partition and reformat your hard drive.  Anything you have on the system may be lost, unless you have backups.  And the backups could even be corrupted.

You can find lots of products on the Internet that claim to do the job.  But I have yet to find any software that gets rid of all the problems by itself, every time.   

Just installing any protection software is not enough.  I have a lot of experience, but it still took me quite a while to learn the little tricks that are needed to set this software up correctly.  This includes disabling some viruses before downloading or installing any software.  Some viruses disable the protection software.

Some of these worms and viruses seem to repeatedly re-install themselves if you don't get everything out of the system.  And it's even more dangerous if you are always connected to the Internet with a high-speed link.  

All of this is why I decided to share this information by writing a book.
