I
realized it was time to develop my own solution.
I
remembered that I had developed a program called "How
to Discover Your Life's Path" years back, while I
was working as a high school teacher and career counselor
In Washington State.

program was a series of exercises and focused questions

clients enjoyed, what their natural talents were, and

This
is where my dog comes in.
In
reviewing the responses I gave for each of the exercises
in the program, I saw that my dog was there very prominently
situated at the center of the things in my life that have
significantly influenced me.
Right
along side my dog was another passion of mine : Art.
With
my answers laid out in front of me, I was able to clearly
see that these two themes had played a major role in my
life.
I
recalled that in the 2nd grade, my dog King inspired me
to create a paper mache dog that had burlap ears. In the
4th grade, my dog Fred inspired me to write poetry from
his perspective. (Fred often communicated by singing Gregorian
chant.) In college, my dog Sven inspired me to create cartoons
that gave him a voice.
And
now, my dog Libby has not only inspired me to create digital
art images that I used to create a line of greeting cards
and other products, but Libby currently has her very own
niche theme web site based on what SHE loves: food.

The
point is, I had to access and pull these ideas and experiences
up again, and get them down on paper so that I could have
a better look.
Once
I saw what I liked, loved, and lived, I began to see the
possibilities for a treasure chest of ideas. Ideas that
were not only decent ideas, but they were a part of me
- they were mine.
So,
my dog Libby inspires me because she is what I love.
She
also inspires me in that she, like all dogs, doesn't struggle
with what she loves. Dogs don't question what they love.
They just do it. As a human, I find that very refreshing.
Dogs
don't worry about what others will think. Or if they're
good enough, or if they're experienced enough. Or if they're
skilled enough. They just do their thing.
Those
of us venturing into the information products business
can learn a lot from dogs in that way.
