Google AdSense has hit the web like a storm, allowing webmasters to finally cash in on content that just didn't work with network banner advertising (in fact, few websites ever worked well with network banner advertising).

Profit Point #1: Using the right Ad Format and Placement...

The first order of business to make the most money with AdSense is to get your Click Through Rate (CTR) up. It doesn't matter how much traffic you have or how high your Earnings Per Click (EPC) is if people aren't clicking on the ads!

So how do you do it?

In order to maximize your AdSense click through rates (CTR), there are three things you must do:

1. Use the one ad format which outperforms the rest by far (it's not the one you think).

3. Use the right color combinations that will keep your visitors from ignoring the ads because of "banner blindness".

Profit Point #2: Targetting the Most Valuable Keywords

"A rose by any other name will still smell as sweet."

That's a beautiful thought, but it's not true for Google AdSense. The words you choose to use on your AdSense pages are incredibly important!

They are important because AdWords advertisers bid on very specific keywords for their advertisements, and some of those keywords have much higher bid values than others. If your subject matter is generally the same, but those specific keywords are not on your page, you'll get the lower paying ads showing up in your AdSense blocks.

In contrast, if your pages contain the best paying keywords (High EPC) AND you implement the steps necessary to get a great Click Through Rate (High CTR), then AdSense Gold is not too far away...

Did you know that some keyword bids go as high as $39 a click?

Believe it. There are some keywords that are so valuable to the advertisers that they are willing to pay $39 per click to get visitors to their website. You could be targetting those keywords and making enormous amounts of money per click!

I've compiled a list of 3617 keywords and their Overture bid prices. Not just the #1 bid price, but, more importantly, the average bid price for the top 5 bids and the average bid price for the top 10 bids.

Knowing the averages is important because often the top bid is significantly higher than the bids beneath it. Knowing the average bids ensures that you target the keywords that will pay the most across the board.

It's important for me to state that the bid value of a keyword alone does not dictate your earnings. Google uses its SmartPricing technology to determine your page's value as it relates to the keywords. But doesn't it make sense that the higher the bid the higher your potential for earnings? It's also important to note that AdWords is the dominant pay-per-click market, and so its click bids are often higher than Overture's. So knowing the Overture bid, which can be extracted, is of great value in determining the general level of AdWord bids, which Google is not giving out.

My keyword bid list also contains the number of searches done per month at Overture for each keyword and keyphrase in the list. A keyword may have a $10.00 per click bid, but if there are only 40 or 50 searches done per month for that phrase, what are the chances that you could build search engine ready content for it and get any real results? It pays to know the traffic a phrase can potentially bring, and my list contains that information.

Don't start writing a million articles just yet!
