Getting back to the discovery...

What I discovered was that conventional sales training simply didn't work. 

Was I a Maverick in thinking this? 

Yes, I was. What  I knew was that I had quotas to meet and an income to earn, yet everything I was being taught about selling didn't work.

I looked for a better way and by trail and error; by testing and measuring, I found it.  For years, I kept this process close to my chest, revealing it only under pressure. I thought it would only work for me...

My employers persuaded me to teach it to others and to my amazement, when they applied it, their sales improved as well. 

Then, in 1999, an amazing thing happened....  I'd been talking to Jerry, a marketing consultant friend of mine about how I planned one day to write a book about this method.
