Welcome to MRSAhelp.co.uk - Click here to view a detailed 3D image of our Ebook.
Welcome to the MRSAhelp Web site. You are about to embark on a powerful journey of KNOWLEDGE... one that possibly could save your life, or the lives of family or friends.

We know what it is like to be living a “normal” life one day, and lose almost everything in the next day or few weeks. If you have undergone a life-altering illness or disability, or are a family member or caregiver of a loved one who has endured an immense physical loss, we hope you find a bit of comfort — and a lot of knowledge — within these pages AND WITHIN OUR BOOK!.

Please note that we are NOT doctors, therapists, or even professional social workers. Any information you find here or in our Ebook, MRSA: Millennium Superbug? Painting A Picture Of Hope, should be taken to your own physician.

Public Awareness

In the past few years in Europe, the MRSA issue has come to the forefront. Public awareness campaigns headed by people such as Tony Fields, amongst others, have brought these alarming issues to the public. As such, many committed people are making advancements to prevent the spread of MRSA.

Tony Fields, Chairman of MRSA Support, had this to say, “It seems the more we throw at MRSA, the more it learns to survive. Hospitals are like alcoholics. They haven't really admitted the problem. Until they do, they will not find a solution.” (The MRSA Support Forum site has many members, worldwide.)

Our site, MRSAhelp.co.uk is a part of this movement. Your search for answers makes you a part of this movement. Together, we can affect change. There is truth in the old adage of finding “safety in numbers.” It has always been so, in humankind’s trek through the ages. Our book is part of the growing bank of information.

If you are seeking help, you have come to the right place. This Ebook is chock full of info and resources, to help you get started immediately in learning to protect yourself and your family from this scourge that is — as it states in our Ebook — indeed, The Lurker On The Doorstep.

Start today. Don’t wait until the prodding fingers of CRISIS are the reason you seek us out. Purchase our Millennium Superbug Ebook today, and begin to outline your plans. If not for you and your family, then you are soon bound to run into somebody who will need your wisdom!

Start with these very basic facts:

*      In general, MRSA is a greater risk to patients than staff. This could also include other people such as visitors, family, etc.

*      There is a difference between people infected with MRSA and those who are asymptomatically colonised (i.e. carry the bacteria on their body but are not infected).

*      Around one third of the population carries a common form of bacteria from the Staphylococcus family, called Staphylococcus aureus (SA). It as a rule lives on the skin or in the nose, and does not cause much damage, aside from triggering occasional skin irritations.

*      Of all the bacteria that have “colonised” the human race, MRSA is amongst the most treacherous.

*      Concerning Community Acquired MRSA — Five factors were associated with outbreaks of the infection — crowding, skin contact, abrasions, or cuts in the skin, sharing contaminated equipment or towels and a lack of hygiene. (page 31).

*      MRSA exhibits one feature that makes it an imminent, deadly adaptation of its more common bacterial cousins — it is resistant to the bulk of antibiotics available. Many varieties of MRSA have been documented, and each one has a differing degree of resistance to an array of antibiotics.

Now that there is a Community-Acquired strain of MRSA, these alarming issues are even more important... for our children. As parents, we have a responsibility to empower ourselves with methods for how we can save them from harm.

Part of this is safeguarding our own selves. We cannot care for our children if we, ourselves, are not here. One of the writers of this book just recently discovered that she is a carrier. This may have been contracted when visiting her mother two years ago, and of course, hugging all over her. Within the year, Mum died of MRSA. It also may have been contracted in hospital-induced staph infection 22 years ago at the birth of her son, whereupon she almost died. This research has led to the knowledge that MRSA has shown up since the 1960s, but has received little coverage until the past few years. Our writer will never know how long she’s been a carrier.

We don’t want YOU to be a victim, with your own long list of horror tales to tell. Read our page carefully and make a positive decision to buy our book. Arm yourself. Come out of the corner, fighting. You can win this game and we will show you how!

Germ Warfare — Come Out Of Your Foxhole And FIGHT

This is almost 70 pages of jam-packed info, designed to help you be prepared with a scenario of PREVENTION, instead of madly attempting to find a magical cure, once MRSA enters your life. The bonus package provides even further references and advice, for a total of near 200 pages. This is an incredible package at an even more incredible price!

Here are some of the items addressed in our Ebook. These sections will be of invaluable use, not just with MRSA but also in general health. The resources are simply awesome!

*      The Truth Is ... GERMS ARE EVERYWHERE. What Have You Touched Today? (page 6).

*      From a nurse in management: “Some hospitals are not isolating patients with MRSA any more. Those folks who have it, have already infected the community ... Take a close look at your ordinary shopping cart ...” (page 6).

*      Government figures show MRSA cases in England have risen from just over 1,000 in 1996 to over 7,000 last year. It is estimated that hospital-acquired infections overall strike around 100,000 people each year in England, costing the NHS (National Hospital System, UK) £1 billion. (page 7).

*      Many healthy humans are said to be “colonised,” meaning they have MRSA present on their skin or mucous membranes, but the MRSA presents no harm to these people. Colonised people are carriers and present a danger of passing MRSA unwillingly to other people. (page 8).

*      Many doctors don't even advise their patients they could be exposed to MRSA. It is a hazard that every patient must be aware of. This is not just a ‘staph’ infection. It is THE MOST EVIL staph infection that one can come in contact with... and once you get it, the MRSA bug never ‘dies,’ as germs do. It goes into a dormant status and is able to stay that way for many years. Or it can flare up many times, over the course of your life.

Where do YOU stand on the Richter Scale of lurking, dangerous disease? Think about your grocery cart, your car door handles after your vehicle has spent three days at the mechanic... think about your young children’s rooms and toys after a day with playmates over. Who knows where their parents have been in the days preceding the play day? How prepared are you?

What Is The Nature Of Your Enemy?

*      All through the world, the upsurge in the cases of MRSA has greatly amplified since the 1990s and continues to increase. Ironically, most folks aren’t even aware of it, or that there is a possibility to acquire it.

*      When antibiotics are prescribed, it is important for the patient to finish the entire course. If the course is not finished, a chance exists that most of the bacteria will be killed, but not all of them. (page 9).

*      Strains that manage to carry two or three resistance genes will have extraordinary powers of resistance to antibiotics. (page 9).

*      MRSA is found worldwide. Remember, individuals may have MRSA present in their nostrils, skin, groin, arm pits, and wounds, but still they remain free of indication of infection. (page 12).

*      Unbelievably, approximately 70 percent of the cases, doctors use ineffective drugs to treat this form of MRSA in the local regions. (page 13).

*      Carriers of MRSA may not have any symptoms. (page 17). Think of this fact in relation to watching your children play, or when using public restrooms. (page 17).

*      Susceptibility to these infections increases if you have been injured, are tired and run down, have had surgery, or you are ill. (page 17).

There are things about the medical community that you need to know. We believe and trust in our doctors and caregivers... but is that always the wisest choice? All we are saying is: BE PREPARED. A recent poll showed that nearly two-thirds of doctors (64%) would be worried about the risk of infection with MRSA if a member of their family was admitted to hospital. (page 18). Another popular revelation in the news media is that the president of the Patients' Association (UK), who caught MRSA, has said she would have to be at death's door before entering a hospital again.

When Did 16 Year Old Get MRSA

Leicestershire — The devastated parents of a 16-year-old boy who died after contracting MRSA say his inquest has left them with more questions than answers. Daniel Youds died in Glenfield Hospital in August last year, two weeks after a routine operation. At his 90-minute inquest at Leicester Town Hall yesterday, coroner Martin Symington recorded a verdict of death by misadventure. Doctors admitted Daniel died due to MRSA, but could not confirm at which stage of the medical process he caught it. Afterwards, mum Liz Youds, 39, of Corby, said she hoped her son's death was not in vain: “The only crumb of comfort I have is that Daniel's legacy is an improvement in cleanliness.”

What Measures Are Being Taken?

When viewed in overall large gulps of information, it appears that there isn’t a lot that can be done to stem the advancing march of MRSA. The stats are NOT good. Here are some disturbing facts:

*      The National Audit Office has blamed poor working practices and a continuing lack of cleanliness and hygiene for rising infection rates. (page 18).

*      A series of measures to tackle infections has been announced, including the best practices from hospitals being passed around the NHS, greater powers for patients and the naming and shaming of trusts with higher rates of MRSA. (page 18).

*      Personal alcohol hand gel bottles worn on the belt have now been introduced to speed up the process of hand hygiene and help staff to keep hands free of MRSA. (page 22).

*      Polls have shown that 76% of doctors doubted that hospitals would be able to provide enough facilities to curb the spread of infection. (page 18).

*      Hospital patients should soon be getting specially-programmed bedside telephones so that they or visitors can complain instantly to the cleaning services. This info recently came from the health secretary, John Reid (UK).

*      There is no single solution to driving down infection and we need a whole package of measures to combat MRSA. (page 21).

With all due respect... our stance is that YOUR preventative measures are going to be much more effective than specialised phones, reliance on health care workers to do a good job in daily hygiene, or a series of “naming and shaming” key personnel.

Arm yourself today by purchasing our Ebook. You really do have much control in these issues, but upfront knowledge is the key!

The Poignant Heart Cry Of
A Mother Who Lost Her 16 Year Old To MRSA

Karen Gerada, MRSA victim — My sweet, sweet Karen it seems only yesterday that you were born and the joys that your birth brought to me and your father were immense.

Now in this profound sorrow I can almost hardly realise that you have gone to Heaven. How cruel life was to us our only daughter entering hospital for an appendicitis operation, during which an ovarian cyst was discovered, ended up getting infected by MRSA in the ovarian cyst wound leading to our present heartbreaking reality.

*      According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), MRSA does not affect healthy people including pregnant women, children, and babies. (page 11). But what is the reality? Colonised persons become carriers and unintentionally pass MRSA to people round them. Colonised and infected patients facilitate the spread of MRSA. (page 32).

*      Some say that staph infections are something that people should be careful and aware about — but not terrified. Staph infections have always been with us. The ones we are seeing now are just more and more resistant. It is not an epidemic. It is just more of a predicament. And what is the reality here? The contagion can also be spread through contact with sinks, work areas, beds, linens, common furniture items, and medical equipment. (page 32).

*      Tens of millions of antibiotics prescribed in doctor’s offices each year are for viral infections, which cannot effectively be treated with antibiotics. Doctors cite diagnostic uncertainty, time pressure on physicians, and patient demand as the primary reasons why antibiotics are over-prescribed. (page 36). And the reality? You have a right to know a definitive diagnosis, and don’t ever let your physician’s “time crunch” be a reason for him not doing his job! His crisis is NOT your obligation. Finally, don’t be a part of the horde that demands antibiotics as the norm... study, learn, and protect yourself!

Why Wasn't MRSA Mum Told?

Winson Green — A new mum who caught MRSA in hospital only found out when she got home and read her baby’s medical notes. Rebecca Russell, 28, was left screaming in agony as the condition worsened and she ended up needing a large black lump removed from her stomach. The case comes amid fears that hospitals are covering up deaths from MRSA — thought to kill 5,000 hospital patients a year. Mum-of-four Rebecca was waiting anxiously to find out if son Michael also had the superbug — after he fell ill with an upset stomach. Rebecca picked up the disease after a Caesarean birth at City Hospital, Birmingham. A swab was taken to test for MRSA and she was told she would be informed if it was positive. But she heard nothing until a midwife told her three days later during a home visit that she had an infection. It was only when Rebecca looked through Michael’s notes she discovered she had the disease.

What Are Your Rights?

*      As a surgical patient, you have an entitlement to know the hospital's rate of infection, their stats on MRSA, and deaths by MRSA. However, that information is not always currently available. Hospitals must report it to the CDC, but the CDC is under no obligation to release those statistics. Keep inquiring and requesting. That information is part of YOUR medical history.

*      The CDC is trying to persuade doctors to grow cultures from skin infections before treating patients, so they know which drugs to use. Improper use of antibiotics may be helping drive the evolution of drug-resistant bacteria, health experts say. (page 33). You have a right to request these cultures. This will help get you the right medication and a better chance for healing.

*      How do you take the hospital to task? If you are a victim of MRSA, you probably are not able to fund the litigation yourself, and as we have had confirmed, Legal Aid does not consider MRSA contraction in a hospital as a negligent act; it has already been decided before any trial that there are no grounds for lawsuit. Your reality? ARM YOURSELF. They may SAY they are under no obligation to reveal data, but with enough pressure, they most likely will fork it over. One Year Of Agony

Intensive Care, Dumfries Eileen Maxwell broke her arm in a fall back in March. Today, almost a year on, it is still broken. On Monday, doctors told her it could be another three months before they get around to operating. The bone in Eileen’s upper right arm — the radius — is snapped cleanly in two. It means her arm hangs loosely, held together by muscle and flesh. She is constantly on painkillers to relieve the agony. And this week she asked: “Would the doctors have left any of their relatives with a broken arm for so long?” According to Eileen, who is 47, three bouts of MRSA stopped her being treated last year.

So, What Can I, As A Common Person, DO?

MRSA is now an unpleasant fact that we are going to have to learn to live with. We will have to become skilled at protecting others as well as ourselves. There is a necessity for continuing education. Not only for those who are clinical staff or specialists, but also for all those who will come into contact with MRSA.

The ONE piece of advice that we can give you, and will give you over and over again: ARM YOURSELF! Purchase our Ebook right away.

*      Hospitalised people can decrease their risk of infection by setting up their own program of self defense. (page 41).

*      If your doctor gives you antibiotics for a skin infection, be alert for signs of treatment failure. (page 47). Take it upon yourself to be the captain of your own ship!

The Personal Fear Haunting Patients

Edinburgh — For any pensioner, the prospect of surgery in hospital is worrying, but for Bob McReight it is terrifying. The 75-year-old had to have a leg amputated after contracting MRSA at the old Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh. Four years later, his wife Margaret, now aged 68, was in the same hospital and she also caught the disease. She still has problems walking. Mr. McReight now has problems with his elbows. He says the prospect of returning to hospital, albeit another one this time, is shattering for both him and his wife. "I am dead scared to go in. But I won't go if they won't let me come home. I am not staying in after the operation. If they are not going to do that, I am not going. I don't trust those people," said the retired lorry driver.

SCREEN SHOT OF PHAGE THERAPY CENTER WEB SITE

IF YOU HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH MRSA, our opinion is that phage therapy is well worth a look into. Study this site well. Any feedback from you would also be very appreciated.

Phage therapy can be very effective in certain conditions and has some unique advantages over antibiotics. Bacteria also develop resistance to phages, but it is incomparably easier to develop new phage than new antibiotic. A few weeks versus years are needed to obtain new phage for new strain of resistant bacteria.

As bacteria evolve resistance, the relevant phages naturally evolve alongside. When super bacterium appears, the super phage already attacks it. We just need to derive it from the same environment.

Phages have special advantage for localized use, because they penetrate deeper as long as the infection is present, rather than decrease rapidly in concentration below the surface like antibiotics. The phages stop reproducing as long as the specific bacteria they target are dead.

Phages do not develop secondary resistance, which is quite often in antibiotics. With the increasing incidence of antibiotic resistant bacteria and a deficit in the development of new classes of antibiotics to counteract them, there is a need to apply phages in a range of infections.” Read more....
