I just couldn't believe it. After all my careful research, and promising myself that I wouldn't make the same mistake twice, you guessed it ... it happened again! I had bought the wrong camera. Not once, but TWICE!
I am getting ahead of myself, so let me start at the beginning.
I use my camera to help me satisfy an interest in photography I have had since I was a young child. Nothing relaxes me as much as a good drive in the country to look for old barns, windmills, sunflowers, and beautifully shaped trees against a gorgeous sky. And if that were all I needed, everything would have been fine, and nearly any camera would have worked.
My problems really started when I thought it would be easy to take photos for my job. I am called on to take good shots of group events at conventions, meetings, etc. My photos were awful. The lighting was pitiful, they were dark, they were blurry, the color was off ... you get the idea. Digital photography was supposed to be wonderful, and relatively easy. How could an intelligent person like me make such a mess of things? Obviously, I needed to know something that had escaped me. Camera #1 was a bust.Those were the shots I just could not get every time with my first digital camera, and the reason I continued to look for something that would do a better job. I missed things that would NEVER happen again, and I was angry with myself for not getting what I needed, and for not knowing what to look for so I could choose.
As a degreed professional and an experienced graphic designer who has spent more than 25 years of my professional life dealing with design, photos and photography, I thought I had seen it all and done it all. Obviously, I had missed something along the way, because I was a miserable failure when it came to buying a camera.
Almost a year passed and I decided to invest even more of my hard-earned $$$ into what I thought would be a much better camera. It was better, but still did not give the results I was looking for. Camera #2 was better, but still a bust.
Two years passed, and I tried again. This time I finally realized what I needed, and that is what I bought. Why had I not known it before? It was because I didn't know what to look for.
Three cameras, several hundred dollars and a lot of frustration later, I now had the information I needed to make an informed choice. I hope my experience will keep you from making the same mistakes I did. Along the way, I studied everything I could get my hands on about digital cameras, and I made some astounding discoveries. You can benefit from my mistakes and learn from my discoveries, some of which I I have not read anywhere in any publication, online or printed.
Buying the right digital camera may not ever be really easy, because it involves making a series of choices. After you have made these choices, it is much easier to shop for your needs.

Although there is some very good information in those places, I did not find any that went into the kind of detail that would have saved me the aggravation I felt.

Why am I sharing this information? As I said before, I bought three cameras before I had one that would really do the job I intended to be able to do the first time. The first two were good cameras, but not what I needed. I did plenty of research, but my budget was limited, so the first camera I bought was a waste of money because it didn’t get me where I needed to be.
This is a non-technical guide for the average person, written to cover the high points while attempting to keep it simple. If you understand white balance, different kinds of metering, and know the difference between aperture priority and shutter priority, we’re probably not talking to you.
