Dear Friend
I
read recently, that many small or medium size companies do not have
a Marketing Plan of any sort at all! This is incredible, as a Marketing
plan is like having a map to profits. Some other entrepreneurs, while
tapping the side of their foreheads, will claim that the Marketing
Plan is "all up here".
That
may be fine and dandy, until they need to show someone else their
blueprint for the business. Perhaps it is to convince the bank manager
that their borrowing facilities should be renewed, or maybe to get
a new investor on board.
From
my experience of running a small business, these events almost always
occur when you are in a hurry - or other things are making pressing
calls on your time. Under this pressure its only reasonable that
any small or medium sized business will find it hard to bring out
the information in a form that someone else can see and understand.
Well
if this sounds familiar and you want the help from a marketing professional,
who also happens to be a small business owner (I do business on
the Internet, as well as having a bricks and mortar retail outlet)
then this is an offer you really shouldn't let pass.
How much
does this normally cost?
Perhaps
you have been put off having a Marketing plan, after being quoted
around £600 a day in fees by a Marketing Agency? How many days do
you think it will it take them to do an audit and draw up the plan
if they don't know your business inside out, like you do?
I
know I would find it hard to justify spending this amount of my
hard earned cash and so I too would just put off getting this helpful
instrument for my business, that is if I didn't already have the
professional marketing knowledge to write a plan with all the right
sections and the marketing models in place.
Trading conditions may not be too good for you currently. The purse
is being held tightly closed. But not bothering with a Marketing
Plan is probably a false economy. Its extraordinary value is in
showing you where your business is now and enabling you to map out
where you go from there. It really is an essential tool in today's
competitive environment.
Maybe
you are trying to attract investors. Well think how much easier
it would be to convince them, to put their money into your dream,
if you have a plan laid out in a neat and professional systematic
form.
Are you
studying for a Marketing Qualification?
Perhaps
I've made an assumption, here, that you own your own company. Maybe
you are a marketing student and need a helpful template for your
assignment answer?
Well,
I've also been a marketing student. So which ever you are I can
identify with your problem. I have a degree in Business Studies
with a Marketing specialisation and I have been a Member of the
Chartered Institute of Marketing for many years. I became a full
member of the CIM in 1989.
I
know what some of you may be thinking. Perhaps this means my marketing
knowledge is not up to date? No, sorry not true! Apart from the
experience that I have from running a small business since 1988
to the present day, I have also been back to refresh my qualifications.
Recently,
so that I could write these reports and make them appropriate for
todays CIM student as well as business men and women, I studied
for and obtained the CIM’s "Professional Diploma in Marketing".
This being awarded to me in 2005.
What I am offering you is current Marketing Professional practice.
